INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

      Information has come to play a key role in social, economic, cultural, and political growth of the nation. Information Communication Technology      (ICT) has revolutionized  the way we live, think, and perform. And even helps in realizing  the vision of good governance. Today e-governance has become a buzzword. To put it simply, it means taking the government to the doorstep of the people. The citizens can get immediate online access to information, which maybe otherwise time consuming. It makes the governmental  functioning more transparent, helping to check corruption.

        Budgam district’s foray into Information Technology (IT) in a big way edged  the District  ahead than many of the more illustrious counterparts, older and more experienced. It all began with the setting up the National Informatics Centre (NIC) at Budgam. NIC,  District unit has the good fortune of working with a very receptive District  Administration.  The sustained efforts by the District  Administration and the NIC has resulted in the growth of a new Informatics culture in the District. Following the installation of the VSAT Technology at the District Headquarter the NIC District unit is providing Internet  and E-Mail facility to the District Administration for message and data transmission between the State Secretariat and District Administration on one hand and between the District and the Central Administration on the other. Later the District acquired the distinction of establishing the Community Information Centres at all the eight Blocks of District Budgam as part of Prime Minister’s Agenda for Socio-economic development of J&K State. Under this project Computers peripherals along with VSAT’s  for satellite Communication have been placed at designed locations in each block. This  project is intended to achieve “FREDOM FROM DISTANCE” and reduction of digital divide by providing Internet excess and connectivity at Block headquarters as to bring the benefits of Information Technology to the remote and relatively  inaccessible areas.

A full fledged VC studio is established regular VC sessions are  conducted for the benefit of various departments.  The VC facility has resulted in  better monitoring of government programmes  and schemes with significant savings in cost, time and man power effort.  Besides a 2 MBPS leased line is also operational which  facilitates both  Internet and Video Conferencing in the District.
