Introduction:-
The Cooperative movement in District Budgam is playing an important role in the upliftment of economy of the rural population by providing farming community different types of Agriculture inputs through net work of 110 functional Cooperative societies registered under the J&K Cooperative Societies Act.1989 .Besides this Cooperative Sector District Budgam is distributing 45% of k.oil to the general public on the basis of allocations made by the FS,CAPD District Budgam on monthly basis. Presently poultry and Dairy Cooperative Societies are being registered under the J&K Cooperative Societies Act.1989 and other specialised pry. Level cooperatives like Floriculture,Agri-Allied, Housing, Education etc. are being registered under the J&K Self Reliant Cooperative Act.1999. It is pertinent to mention here that presently 02 Cooperative Acts are governing the working of cooperative Societies namely J&K Cooperative Societies Act.1989 and J&K Self Reliant Cooperative Act.1999. Cooperative Sector District Budgam covers almost 450 villages of District Budgam.
Now -a-days due to globalization and privatization Cooperative Sector at large has received a set back because the distribution of k.oil, chemical fertilizer and other essential commodities have been gradually taken away from the Cooperative Societies and Cooperative Department is now diversifying its activities into new innovative fields like poultry, Dairy, Education and pashmeena. At present 62 poultry Cooperative Societies have been registered under the J&K Cooperative Societies Act.1989. Out of which 15 poultry Cooperative Societies are fully funded, 03 poultry Cooperative Societies are partly funded under the National Cooperative Development Corporation ( NCDC ) sponsored poultry development scheme in J&K for development of commercial poultry projects and legal documents of the remaining 02 poultry Cooperative Societies are under process.
