Daylong awareness programme on Air, Water pollution, Solid Waste Management held at Budgam

Budgam, Feb 04: A daylong awareness programme on air, water pollution and Solid waste Management under Swachhta Action Plan was held today at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall Budgam where experts and resource persons called on coordinated efforts to protect environment.

The programme was organized by J&K Pollution Control Board Budgam in collaboration with District Administration Budgam. District Development Commissioner Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganaie who was chief guest on the occasion called on adopting two way methods and other proactive measures to curb and control water and air pollution presently polluting the whole atmosphere, the initiative and measures will enable safeguard the environment from hazards effects for better human life.

He emphasized on putting strenuous efforts to save the 31 percent forest cover under mission mode strategy and focus on massive plantation in the affected area. He said that it would prove disastrous to our environment if we fail to protect our forest cover.

The DDC also said that need is also to establish scientific Solid Waste Management plants in district Budgam. He directed all BDOs and EOs to identify landfill sites for establishment of Solid Waste Management plants in every block to ensure proper waste collection, its segregation and proper disposal. He called upon the Urban Local Bodies department to introduce innovative methods to tackle issues hampering solid waste management system in the district. he further urged that everyone should play a role to curb  rising pollution by ensuring proper disposal of the waste generated by all households.

Among other who spoke on the occasion include Regoinal Director J&K PCB, Rafi Ahmad Bhat, DFO Budgam Mohammad Ashraf, ARTO Mubashir Jan, Chairman NSPWRWAF, Nazir Be-Nazir, DO PCB Budgam Fayaz Ahmad.   On the occasion, students also performed a skit on the lackadaisical attitude of the general public towards the protection of water bodies from daily pollution.
