Republic Day celebrated at Budgam

Budgam, Jan 26: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with much enthusiasm and fanfare in Budgam, where Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar as chief guest took salute at march past and unfurled the national flag.

The main function was held at Sports Stadium Budgam where contingents of JKP, JKAP, CRPF, Home Guards, NCC and school students participated in the march past parade.

Among others, former legislator Javed Mustafa Mir, SP Budgam, Amod Ashok Nagpure, ADDC Budgam, Khurshid Ahmad Sanai, ADC Budgam Khurshid Ahmad Shah and senior officers of the district attended the function, besides large gathering of locals also turned up to the venue to witness the march past parade.

Dy.SP Aakash Kohli as Parade Commander supported by Inspector Yasir Arafat as Assistant Parade Commander led the march past.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Budgam, while highlighting the importance of celebrating the Republic Day, said that the district administration is committed on the overall development of the district.

She said that the Government has sanctioned languishing projects numbering 96 worth Rs 234 crores and shortly these works will be taken up. She said these projects include 19 bridges, 4 roads with cost implication of Rs 53 crores. She said that the District Administration has also proposed for sanction of 9 projects involving cost of Rs. 124 crores under JKIDFC. These include projects of District Hospital Budgam and widening of Budgam – Humhama road, Water Supply Scheme at Zampathri, Pilgrimage House at Charsharief and to face lifting of Budgam Bus Adda and New Bus Adda, Chadoora.

Under Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, she said that besides phenomenal asset creation under MGNREGA and PMAY, 50000 Individual Household units have been constructed to make Budgam ODF. Panchayat elections were conducted peacefully in 300 Panchayats and now we will cherish the development prospects of local self governments. 21 services will be managed by these local governments. While highlighting the PHE sector, she said that 31 number of water supply schemes have been taken up in hand for execution in next few years under languishing projects of JKIDFC worth Rs. 52 crores. This programme will enable us to cover 102 villages/ habitations, 2 number of towns benefitting 161890 souls. During the current financial year of 2018-19, 16 WSS were taken up for completion at a cost of Rs. 13.198 crores, work is in full progress for achieving the completion target.

In Education, the Dc said that 57 winter coaching classes with student enrollment of 6450 along with 10 Math learning schools with enrollment of 1150 students have been set up in the district. Lauding the role of YSS Budgam for conducting various sports related events, she said under JKIDFC execution of 4 playfields at Kralpathri, Sikh Nambal, Magam and Gogo with cost implication of Rs 12.55 crores shall be taken up soon. The DC said that the district being the leading district in vegetable farming with 249 MTs production during last year, the National Horticulture Board in collaboration with Department of Agriculture/ Horticulture (P&M) under reconnaissance survey identified villages of Narkara and Bugam as Vegetable Growing Clusters.

Further the DC called upon all citizens to coordinate with the administration and contribute in making the district more prosperous and progressive.

On the occasion, different cultural programmes were also presented by school students who mesmerized the audience with their scintillating performances.

On the occasion, awards were given to various employees for their meritorious services.

Pertinently, Abdul Rasheed (PAS Operator) and Gulzar Ahmad (Screenman) of District Information Centre Budgam were also appreciated and presented with trophies for their meritorious services.

The district administration also felicitated Yusra Shabir of GHSS Kanir and Attiya Qounsar of GHSS Budgam for securing 2nd and 6th position respectively in science stream of 12th class examination.  Besides, the DC also felicitated differently abled Musavir Nabi and Arif Nabi twin brothers for passing 10th class examination with distinction. The duo was given customized laptops and smart phones also. Abrar Ahmad, differently abled person was also felicitated in recognition of his contribution towards mentoring/ guiding the visually impaired people particularly students in the state.  

Meanwhile the day was also celebrated with nationalist fervor at Sub division and Tehsil levels of the district.
