Rural Development Department Budgam

Mission, vision, objectives, citizen charter

Rural Development Department aims at developing the Rural Economy in terms of Infrastructure, Creation of durable Assets and generation of employment opportunities including creation of wage and self-employment. The basic objectives of Rural Development Programmes have been alleviation of poverty and unemployment through the creation of basic social and economic infrastructure and providing employment to rural un-employed masses to discourage seasonal and permanent migration to urban areas.

Rural Development Budgam comprises of 17 CD  Blocks and 296 GPS.

The Directorate is under the administrative control of the Rural Development Department at the Secretariat Level which is headed by an officer of the rank of Commissioner/Secretary to Government. At the provincial level, the Directorate is headed by the Director who is a major head of the Department in terms of the Jammu & Kashmir Book of Financial Powers. He exercises administrative and financial control over the whole province and is assisted by Joint Director (Administration), Superintending Engineer REW Kashmir, Deputy Director (Planning), District Panchayat Officer (Publicity), Block Development Officer (Headquarter) Accounts Officer and other necessary staff to carry out the day to day working in the Directorate.

In District Executive engineer REW Budgam, District Panchayat Officer, Block Development Officers, Assistant Executive Engineers and other staff is under Administrative Control of Assistant Commissioner Development budgam

Act and Schedule

The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act was notified in 2005. As per an amendment to the Act, the words ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ was refixed to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. The Act covers the entire country with the exception of districts that have a hundred per cent urban population.
