J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute Budgam

Mission, vision, objectives, citizen charter

The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) has been on the forefront of enterprise creation and socio-economic development of the Union Territory by providing an alternate potent narrative through entrepreneurship development.

Gone are the days when being an educated and highly qualified person guaranteed employment but now a days the scenario is very adverse and has resulted in serious social and economic problems. This has been an issue of concern for successive governments in the UT as well as at the Centre with an already saturated public service sector in J&K. With limited job opportunities the problem of unemployment has increased manifolds in recent years.

In this backdrop, JKEDI over the years have attained a reasonable significance in terms of creating a conducive and robust entrepreneurial ecosystem across the UT. Thus far, JKEDI has achieved considerable success in terms of changing the mindset of the people towards entrepreneurship and recognizing it as a viable career opportunity for young population. Among other things, we have been assisting the government in formulating and implementing policies for entrepreneurship development by helping actual and potential entrepreneurs through a host of services like counseling, consultancy, research, incubation, acceleration, training and entrepreneurship education etc.

We help and nurture budding and existing entrepreneurs in their pursuit to become scalable and sustainable enterprises. Day by day we are learning and at the same time we are using our experience to grow and build a sustainable future envisaged with an objective of creating a self-sustainable and economically independent society.

During all these years JKEDI has been striving to reach all the corners of the UT which till this time have remained untouched depriving them of the opportunities that they truly deserve. At JKEDI, we believe that the socio-economic development of any society is important at the very grass-root level and it is the upliftment of the marginalized class that shall bring that positive change which we envisage for a socially vibrant and economically independent society.

Apart from imparting skill-based training to aspiring entrepreneurs from various economic sectors, the institute is also implementing a major finance support programme, Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SCFS), of the state government. SCFS is an important component of “Sher-e- Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY)” which in turn is a path breaking initiative of the government of Jammu and Kashmir for addressing unemployment in the state. Under SCFS, we give seed money to eligible youth up to Rs 10 lakh. The seed capital is like a onetime grant given to the entrepreneurs for making their business plans bankable. The rest of the business cost is provided through bank finance on low interest rates. We have a tie up with the J&K Ban –our debt syndicate – for hassle-free loan for entrepreneurs promoted by JKEDI.

Eligibility Criteria:

Age: 18-40 years

Min qualification: 10+2

The institute also provide direct off-bank finance to eligible youth under its Youth Startup Loan Scheme (YSLS) programme whereby projects costing up to Rs. 20 lakh are directly financed at 6% simple interest. Entrepreneurs covered under either of the programmes must undergo mandatory three-week training. The training programme has been formulated with the help of international organizations like making Cents whereby trainees are trained through experiential training methods and simulation exercises.

The Institute also provides term loans to marginalized sections of the society at 6% simple rate of interest for setting up micro level, village-based enterprises.
