Govt working on implementation of 73rd, 74th amendments of Panchayat Raj Act to empower PRIs: Lieutenant Governor

Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu today said that government was working on implementation of 73rd and 74th amendments of Panchayat Raj Act to empower Panchayat members to work more effectively across the Union Territory.

These remarks were made by the LG while addressing a huge gathering during Back to Village programme-2 at Sonpah, Beerwah in Budgam district. LG was accompanied by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseeer Ahmad Khan, IG Kashmir SP Pani, while as DDC Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganai, SP Budgam, Amod Ashok Nagpure and other senior officers/ officials were also present on the occasion. The programme was also attended by BDC chairmen and hundreds of Panchayat members.    

During his maiden visit to the district, LG said that the B2V2 was going smoothly across J&K and he was overwhelmed to see people in large taking part in the ongoing B2V2 programmes. He said that the ongoing programme has generated massive response from the public; however, unfortunately some people are trying to sabotage it in some areas.

Condemning the recent Hakura, Anantnag incident in which a local Sarpanch and an officer lost their lives, LG said that such incidents are aimed at disrupting the B2V2 programme. LG said that the ongoing programme is meant to empower people at grass root level and assured that the ongoing programme shall be taken to its logical end.

He stressed on the extensive follow up of all B2V programme and directed concerned to ensure  timely completion of works to give fillip to the developmental process.

Emphasizing on the speedy completion of development projects, LG said that a thorough review of ring road project shall be taken for prompt redressal of all issues regarding the project and early start of it.

He said a review of PM’s Package shall also be taken for its equitable implementation across the J&K. LG said that special focus is being given on the completion of 2500 languishing projects out of which half of the projects have been completed.

He said that GoI has launched many people centric schemes which need to be implemented properly for the development and prosperity of the common masses.  The LG said that under a centrally sponsored scheme all left out and unconnected households across J&K shall be supplied the tap water soon.     LG also highlighted the important role of organizing awareness campaigns to sensitize people about various welfare schemes being run by the government. He said that government has rolled out effective mechanism for the completion of languishing projects in the stipulated time period.

Earlier, LG inspected the stalls established by various departments for awareness regarding their schemes, products and machinery. LG interacted with officials and enquired about the implementation of schemes run by the concerned departments.

He also distributed certificates, water purifiers and monetary incentives to hundreds of beneficiaries facilitated by various departments under various government schemes. LG also provided a computer system to Panchayat Ghar Sonpah.

Earlier, the District Development Commissioner Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganai in his welcome address gave a detailed review of activities carried out with regard to development and welfare of the people across the district.  On the occasion various cultural programmes were performed to highlight the importance of the B2V2 programme.
