DC Budgam kick starts distribution of compensation among affected orchardists
Budgam, Feb 03: District Development Commissioner Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganaie today said that keeping in view the magnitude of damages due to the unprecedented heavy snowfall of November 6 and 7, 2019, causing damages to the orchards including walnut and almond trees, the government has declared it national disaster instantly. Simultaneously after assessing the damages all across the district Budgam a detailed report also depicting compensation component was submitted for its early release. In this connection the government has sanctioned Rs 28 crores as relief to be distributed among the affected farmers after proper scrutiny of the damages affected.
The DC said this at a function organized by Revenue office Budgam at Panchayat Ghar Sheikhpora while distributing relief cheques worth Rs 175553 among 72 farmers belonging to Sheikhpora and its surroundings whose orchards were damaged due to this calamity. The DC said presently they have received Rs 13 crores as first installments of compensation and the process of its distribution among the affected farmers has started all across the district Budgam.
