Work on Rs. 4.3 Cr drainage project at Sumerbugh to start soon: ADDC Budgam Says around 60 more houses to be constructed for rehabilitation of Chount Kull dwellers

Budgam, Mar 08:- Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Budgam, Khurshid Ahmad Sanai today said that work on the Rs. 4.30 crore robust drainage project/ STP will be started soon at Housing Colony Sumerbugh to address water logging issues there.

The ADDC made these remarks during his visit to the Colony to take stock of the facilities of the rehabilitated Chount Kull and Dal dwellers. 

He was accompanied by IAS Probationer, Dr. Bilal Muhi-u-din Bhat, SDM Chadoora, Aziz Ahmad, Tehsildar BK Pora, Shahbaz Boda, BDO BK Pora, Ajaz Ahmad, officials from SMC, SDA, PWD Budgam and other different departments.

The ADDC said that on the completion of the mega drainage/STP project, there will be no more water logging issues in the colony. 

He said that besides this, more than 60 houses will be constructed at the identified sites for the proper rehabilitation of remaining families shifted from Chount Kull and adjoining Dal lake areas. He said due to low lying area water accumulates during rains and snowfall, however, he said that  work on these projects will be started soon by the concerned departments to address the issue once for all. 

He said that over 160 families have been rehabilitated and provided with houses at the Colony under JNNURM so far.

Meanwhile, the ADDC directed the concerned to immediately start dewatering of the water logged patches, roads and residential premises and asked them to put dewatering pumps into service for the same on war footing basis.

He said that as a temporary relief to the residents, a dewatering pump will be dedicated and will remain stationed at colony round the year for dewatering of accumulated water during inclement weather conditions.

On the occasion, the ADDC led officers’ team also met local residents and listened to their demands. The  ADDC assured them that all their genuine demands will be looked into and taken up with the concerned. 

He also issued on spot directions for redressal of various demands and directed BDO BK Pora to ensure proper disposal of the scattered garbage from open spots to avoid outburst of any health situation during summer months. He also stressed on construction of surface drainage, installation of dust bins regular lifting and disposal of garbage, maintenance of playground and parks, macadamizing of roads and plying of public transport for the residents.  

Meanwhile, locals hailed the officers team for visit and for addressing their issues.
