25 fish farmers flagged off on exposure tour in Budgam “Steps afoot to provide better marketing facilities to fish farmers to boost sector”

Budgam, Feb, 14: Additional Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani in presence of Assistant Director Fisheries, Showkat Ahmad Bhat today flagged off 25 progressive fish farmers including women entrepreneurs on exposure tour under ATMA at DC office Budgam.

Earlier, ADC interacted with the farmers and urged them to expand their units to promote the fish cultural in the district. He said that district administration have been providing all possible assistance including better marketing facilities to support farm holders and encourage others too towards fish farming.

He said during the tour the farmers shall visit various farms and training centers in different districts to acquaint them about latest techniques and methods for progressive fish farming. He urged them to make best use of the training and demonstrations they will learn during the tour. He said administration is always there to help and cooperate with the interested farmers to come forward and avail the opportunities envisaged under various schemes by establishing these units which can generate alternate employment opportunities for the   unemployed youths. 

While giving details about the engagements of farmers during exposure tour, the Assistant Director Fisheries Budgam, Showkat Ahmad Bhat said that the farm holders shall visit many places including National Fish Seed Manasbal, Trout Fish Farm Pandach and Trout Farm Laribal with an aim to give first hand awareness about latest and scientific techniques of fish farming to the farmers about productive and beneficial farm operation. He said there are presently 100 fish farms operative in the district which include 60 carp and 38 trout farms to boost this sector in the district.
