DDC Budgam stresses on fool-proof disaster management preparedness in the district

Budgam, March, 11: District Development Commissioner, Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganai today stressed on the fool-proof disaster management preparedness for quick and prompt response to mitigate loss of life and public property during any disaster.

This was said by the DDC, while speaking as a chief guest at a daylong awareness programme on disaster management preparedness organized by District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Budgam in collaboration with Civil Defence Budgam at Shiekh-ul-Alam Hall Budgam.

Among others the programme was attended by ADC Budgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, Dy Commandant Disaster Response Force Srinagar, DIO, Tajamul Yousuf, DTO Showkat Ahmad Hakani, Dy.SP Civil Defence, all Tehsildars and officials of various government departments.

 In order to ensure well preparedness at district level, the DDC,  who is chairman DDMA, emphasized on conducting regular training and awareness programmes across the district besides regular conduct of demonstrations of equipments stationed at Disaster Emergency Operation Centre Budgam.

Stressing on readiness, DDC said these kind of awareness and training programmes are must to attend in order to garner awareness for preparedness to ensure prompt response towards different natural and manmade disasters to mitigate any loss of life and property.  He urged upon the conducting awareness programmes in schools for effective awareness dissemination. He also called upon the concerned to conduct disaster management related programmes, mock drills in nook and corner of the district for prompt and swift response which can minimize the damages to a large extent.  He emphasized that we should learn lesson from Kashmir 2014-deluge, Chennai and Uttranchal tragedy and our endeavour should be to remain alert and cautious all the time in order to avert any loss of life and public property during disasters.    

On the occasions, demonstrations for various methods and measures how to tackle the situation in any emergency occurring through natural as well as   manmade disasters was presented by experts from Disaster Response Force 1st bn Srinagar  and other concerned.
