DDC Budgam takes stock of progress under Jal Jeevan Mission, BBBP schemes

Budgam, Feb- 29: District Development Commissioner, Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganaie today said that every household shall be provided tap water facility by June-2021 across the district.

This was told by the DDC while chairing a meeting to review the progress made under Jal Jeevan Mission scheme at Confernce Hall Budga. Among others the meeting was attended by SE Hydraulics, CPO Rafiq Ahmad, Programme Officer, ACD, CMO, CEO, DIO, Ex.Ens and other concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC exhorted upon the concerned to ensure work completion on all ongoing water supply schemes to ensure supply 100 percent coverage of all households by June- 2021 across the district. He stressed on retro fitting to upgrade older WSSs for supply of improvement in quality and quantity in water supply to the households. He instructed on the completion of all WSS projects approved under languishing, NRWP and NABARD. The DDC directed concerned to hold block wise awareness camps in the district and ensure registration of all connections besides swift GR collection from all households being supplied tap water in the district. 

During the meeting, 134 WSS involving Rs 1240.24 crores were approved under JJM for the district.

SE Hydraulics gave a detailed overview of JJM and schemes, programmes to be taken under the mission in order to achieve objectives of JJM. He informed the meeting that braod activities under the mission include coverage of 100 percent coverage of households, retro fitting of closed schemes, water harvesting, construction of additional filtration plants and awareness campaigns.

Reviewing the progress under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, the DDC said that Rs. 25 lacs have been released to ICDS, CEO and CMO for the benefits to the girl child under the scheme.

He stressed on the timely distribution of kits to mothers delivering babies and instructed concerned to emphasize on capacity building and awareness generation through media publicity and traditional Nukkad and skit performances in nook and corner of the district.  

The DDC laid stress on conducting exposure cum education tours for girls besides felicitation of girls for excelling in their studies, sports, career and other professional activities.
